The American Medical Association encourages all adults to supplement daily with a multiple vitamin. Reports published in the June 19, 2002 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that the current North American diet is not adequate to support the need for optimal health. Insufficient vitamin consumption may be the cause of chronic diseases such as, cardiovascular disease, cancer & osteoporosis.
Choosing the right supplement is crucial to insure the safety and the right balance of nutrients. The chance of accidental overdose is rare, but some combinations of nutrients can react with others. For example, too much zinc taken as a stand-alone supplement can interfere with the metabolism of other minerals in the body. High levels of Vitamin C can increase the uptake of iron which is known for its cumulative toxicity. Taking a high dose of Vitamin C along with a high dose of iron could pose a significant health risk.
Most people have a limited ability to select nutrients that are readily absorbable and used in the appropriate and balanced amounts. It is better to take a professionally manufactured nutritional supplement in which the questions of completeness, balance and safety have been factored into the formulation.
All supplements are not created equal. Purity is extremely important and consumer assurance that a particular product has exceeded the highest standards for quality, purity and guaranteed potency can only be achieved through compliance with the US and Canadian Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) for pharmaceuticals. Only 2% of the supplements on the market today meet these standards and AmeriSciences supplements are one of them.
Somewhere between 20-40% of dietary supplements in the U.S. do not meet the analysis for the label claim. With quality control like that, people should be asking if what in on the label is really in the bottle.

Equipment Purchased by the Kentucky NWTF
Available for
use
This is a column that we'd like to see used
more. The equipment listed was
purchased with Super Fund money and/or money raised by a local chapter and is available for use by any NWTF member.
The Southwest Spurs Chapter (Jefferson County) had purchased 3 Matthews Geneses Bows (2 right hand and 1 left hand) for use at their Jakes Day last year. The chapter is willing to allow other chapters the use of these bows for their Jakes Days. Borrowing chapters must be willing to pay delivery freight for shipping to and back. These bows will on a first-come-first-serve basis. Contact Jerry Kepple (Field Service Representative - Kentucky DSO) at 502-544-2777 for more information. Offered
by the Derby City Chapter to all NWTF members: A 5' disc that requires a 3 point hitch
tractor hook-up and a nice two wheel push spreader. There is no charge for its use by any NWTF
member. Contact Chapter President,
Keith Fisher, for details at 1-502-664-9464 or email
www.airxchangellc.com
. This is a good idea the Derby City Chapter has come up with. There is a lot of equipment around the state, which has been purchased with Super Fund dollars raised at NWTF Super Fund Banquets, that sets idle for weeks or months at a time that could be used by other members. _____________________________________________________ Interested in placing a classified ad?
